CITY OF TOKYO HOSTS TICAD-9 MINISTERIAL MEETING
The city of Tokyo hosted the Ministerial Meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9) on August 24th and 25th of this year, held at the New Otani Hotel. The theme of the conference was “Co-creating Innovative Solutions with Africa” to better address the global challenges affecting the world and our continent, working in close cooperation with African countries to find solutions.
The Angolan delegation was led by His Excellency Rui Miguêns de Oliveira, Minister of Industry and Commerce, and included Her Excellency the Angolan Ambassador to Japan, Ms. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
In accordance with the work program and conceptual agenda, the Ministerial Meeting took place over two days and included, among other events, plenary sessions, interactive debates, and exhibitions on the sidelines of the meeting. During this period, participants had the opportunity to share experiences and present innovative solutions to various economic and social challenges facing our continent and the world.
The interactive debate sessions addressed topics on society and the realization of a sustainable future, focusing on the issue of human resources, especially youth as future leaders of Japan-Africa cooperation. The meeting also hosted a panel that addressed the issue of peace and stability as a guarantee of human dignity and security, as well as a major panel focused on the economy, which addressed the issue of how to promote trade and foster investment with African countries, taking advantage of the concept of seeking African solutions through the implementation of innovative methods, including digital transformation.
It should be noted that the Ministerial Meeting takes place every two years on a rotational basis (between Japan and African capitals) and will serve as preparation for the next TICAD-9 Summit, to be held in 2025 in the city of Yokohama (Japan).
